Bike traffic in the Netherlands

Today I had a talk with some exchange students about the bike traffic in the Netherlands. They were all very amazed by it, its effectiveness and especially because of the amount of people that actually rides a bike. Normally I don’t feel really proud of my country – except for the moments we win a worldcup football – but for this once I was really proud.

Actually I think it’s kind of strange that we don’t really focus on the things we are good at. We usually speak about the public transportation when talking about durability, while there actually is something way bigger in the Netherlands: People that use their bikes for transportation. It’s not that riding a bike is more handy than going by public transport, but it should at least deserve a little more attention.
